- Private Lessons

- Percussion Improvisation
- All percussion instruments, and the use of percussion instruments in improvisation, will be introduced to students choosing this as an option. Students will participate in percussion ensembles which will perform in student concerts.
- Chamber Music
- Students electing Chamber Music as an option will be assigned to small ensemble groups with other students. Coaching will be arranged for rehearsals and performances in the afternoon Option Period and during the daily student concert.
- Introduction to Irish Trad Music
- Classically trained music students are introduced to the mostly unwritten rules, tunes, method of communication, order of precedence and protocols for performing Irish Traditional Music. Students will perform in Trad Ensembles on student concerts.
- Art
- Students in Art classes will work with instructors in creative projects relating to music, including the designing and preparation of sets and props for opera productions.
- English Language for Foreign Students
- A qualified language instructor will be giving short daily 'English as a Second Language' classes for students who wish to increase their spoken English language skills.
- Recreation & Supervised Swimming
- The University Sports Centre includes outdoor playing fields and running tracks, and a magnificent indoor Arena and Olympic Swimming Pool. Students signing up for swimming during recreation periods will be accompanied by supervisors to the pool area. The pool is also available for recreation in the evening. For SMS students, there is a nominal charge of e2.50 for each time they use the pool, and 5 or 10 day passes are available.
- Weekend Scenic Tour
- Subject to sufficient enrolment, a tour bus will be arranged to take SMS participants on a tour of visitor attractions in the west of Ireland. Depending upon bus and admission charges to attractions, there will be an additional charge, and those interested may sign up at the beginning of the SMS programme.
- Private Practice
- Students may elect to devote one session each day to private practice. If necesssary, practice sessions may be monitored by staff.
